November 2015
In July 2015, I finished the most intricate electronic mix I had ever made. I included artists varying from Machinedrum to Philip Glass to Daft Punk, but then combined synthesizer recordings, lecture fragments, and field recordings for an elaborate journey over 75 minutes.
For the next 4 months, I pieced together MIDNIGHT as the complete audiovisual version of the mix. I designed a system in TouchDesigner that I later named 'ABSTRAKTION', that builds on the Ableton / TouchDesigner Sync environment provided by Derivative. I aimed to create an immersive space for the experience with an LED ceiling net, traditional LED lighting fixtures, and projected visuals, all running in TouchDesigner. Most of the visuals were created and rendered real time within TouchDesigner, though I also used Blender and SpaceEngine.
